Our New Flickr Site

Our new Flickr site has just gone live at http://www.flickr.com/photos/coalfieldsheritagegroup

Flickr is Yahoo's photo sharing site used by millions of people all over the world. We are very pleased to be able to share our photographs in this way. There is only a small number of photos there at present, but this will gradually increase in time. Below you can see some of the photos from the Percy Sternbeck Collection.

Advertiser Newspaper Wedding Photos

A project was commenced in late 2012 to scan our collection of bound Advertiser newspapers for all of the wedding photos appearing from 1964 through to 1999.

The newspapers were scanned by a number of museum volunteers, whilst Brian Andrews fed all of the information into a computer database.

The project was completed in April 2012, and printed as a reference book for our extensive Library. The book is made up of 108 pages, and contains 5215 entries - all based upon the way the names were spelt in the newspapers.

The book now forms part of our hundreds of reference library books.

CHG - University Library

We have been working with the University Library on their People and Place | Coal and Community Exhibition which features some of our photos. Everyone is invited to see the exhibition at various venues over the next couple of years. There is a website for the project at www.coalandcommunity.com.where you are invited to share your stories about our community.

Coach Tours picking up

The number of mini-bus and coach visits to the Edgeworth David Museum has increased in recent weeks. It is as if there has been a great deal of renewed interest in everything to do with history and heritage.

Visitors have included Singaporean tourists, the Morisset Probus Club and the Muswellbrook Retired Miners.
